PM orders criminal, departmental action after LESCO irregularities probe
The federal government has completed its investigation into the irregularities in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO). The prime minister has approved criminal and departmental action in light of the inquiry report, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
The investigation committee had earlier submitted its findings to the Prime Minister, covering issues including material procurement and other administrative matters.
Following the report, the Prime Minister directed the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of the Power Division to initiate action accordingly.
The inquiry committee recommended that material procurement be strictly conducted in line with Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules and that blacklisted companies be rejected.
It further advised that a fresh type test of material for grid stations be conducted and amendments be made in WAPDA Rules regarding the powers of LESCO's Executive Officer.
The committee also suggested ensuring the installation of AMI meters and called for legislation to regulate additional charges and ad-hoc recruitments in companies.
