Pakistan, Sri Lanka launch joint counter-terrorism exercise 'Shake Hands-II'
The armed forces of Pakistan and Sri Lanka have launched a joint counter-terrorism military exercise titled “Shake Hands-II” to enhance cooperation and operational readiness, the military’s media wing said on Monday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two-week-long exercise commenced on April 27, 2026, at Tarbela in Pakistan. The training involves personnel from the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group along with Special Forces units from the Sri Lankan Army.
Officials said the exercise is aimed at improving professional capabilities through joint training while further strengthening the longstanding military-to-military relations between the two friendly countries.
During the exercise, participating troops will engage in a range of counter-terrorism training activities designed to enhance operational coordination, tactical expertise and battlefield response techniques.
The ISPR stated that the initiative will allow both sides to exchange operational experiences and best practices in counter-terrorism operations, ultimately improving interoperability and mutual understanding between the two armed forces.
Military observers say such joint exercises reflect growing defence cooperation between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and underscore their shared commitment to regional security and stability.
