Dollar down by Rs1.18, being traded for Rs167.25
Just a day after setting a new record, the US dollar took a big hit in early trading on Thursday as its inter-bank exchange rate tumbled to Rs167.25 after losing Rs1.18 against the rupee, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
It is certainly the biggest reduction in dollar value in recent weeks but one would have to see whether this trend is sustained during the session.
Earlier on Wednesday, the dollar set a new record against the rupee as its exchange rate jumped to Rs168.43 after a gain of six paisas in inter-bank trading.
Same was the case in open market where the dollar was available for Rs169 following its value going up by 20 paisas.
Similarly, the euro ended the day at Rs198.98 in inter-bank exchange rate after gaining two paisas. However, it was down in open market where it lost 50 paisas while closing at Rs199.50.
As far as the pound sterling is concerned, its value was up by Rs1.26 in inter-bank rate and 50 paisas in open market, closing at Rs221.53 and Rs223 respectively.
