Robbers loot Orange Line central station in Lahore

August 27, 2020 06:34 PM

Although Lahore’s Orange Line is near completion for the last two years but the much-awaited and much-needed project hasn’t been completed by the PTI government, providing an opportunity to some unwanted elements to take advantage of the situation.

Given that the project is being neglected with no one to protect the structure and equipment worth billions, some armed robbers broke into the central station near GPO and took way PSD, LCD and computers early in the morning, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Another astonishing aspect of this incident is that the central station is located in the high security zone of Lahore, as the armed men were able to enter the premises after smashing the windowpanes.

Now one wonders who would secure the structure given the Usman Buzdar-led government is unable to protect neither the people nor the national assets.

On Wednesday, 24NewsHD reported that the citizens of Punjab have so far lost valuables and cash to the tune of over Rs12 billion in robberies across the province amid the tall claims made by the Usman Buzdar government about good governance.

It means the robbers, unfortunately, set a new record as the amount stood at over Rs6 billion in the corresponding period of 2019.

To be exact, the citizens of Punjab have so far lost over Rs12.39 billion [Rs12,395,000,000] in robberies in 2020 which shows that the loss doubled in the current year.

This people are witnessing this situation despite the fact that the current IGP – Capt (retd) Shoaib Dastgir – is the fifth person to head the Punjab Police after Buzdar assumed power after the July 25 elections in 2018.

Hence, it also shows that all the special favours of the part of provincial government and enhanced resources for the police did not produce any result other than the criminals “improving their performance” by over 100 percent.

This fiasco is a natural consequence of the fact that the number of thefts, robberies and dacoities are on the rise with the police unable to check the trend.

Ultimately, the citizens of Punjab have been left at the mercy of criminals due to the poor strategy and weak leadership shown by the police.

Despite this state of affairs, the only thing done so far is to summon the officers to the Central Police Office in Lahore.

On the other hand, the Punjab Police still justifying their performance with an excuse that the recovery rate has increased in 2020.
