Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart and Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore on Saturday (February 27) after 20 months.
When Hamza stepped out of the jail, he was welcomed by PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz and a large number of party leaders and workers who danced to drumbeat and shouted slogans in his favour.
Around 12 camps were set up at different places of the provincial capital to welcome the PML-N leader on the way to his residence in Model Town.
Earlier, Hamza’s release orders were registered at Camp Jail. Later, a court employee from the Camp Jail went to Kot Lakhpat prison along with the release order.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday (February 24) had granted bail to PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz in assets beyond means case.
The court also ordered Hamza to submit two surety bonds of one million rupees each.
However, the PML-N leader could not be freed on Wednesday as the LHC order granting bail to him could not arrive at the accountability court in time.
