ECP arms DROs and ROs with magisterial powers

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has delegated powers of a magistrate first class to District Returning Officers and Returning Officers for conducting general elections 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

According to ECP notification issued on Friday, magisterial powers were granted to DROs and ROs under section 193 of Election Act 2017.

The ROs and DROs can avail these powers for general elections of national and provincial assemblies across Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan till the announcement of final results of the candidates.

ROs and DROs have the right to take action against the candidates for violating code of conduct issued by the ECP.
