Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar said on Friday that the right to vote could not be snatched from overseas Pakistanis, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking to newsmen in Islamabad, he said that the government planned to introduce a bill in the parliament under which seats would be reserved for the Pakistanis living overseas.
Tarar regretted that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was used for political victimization in the past. “Even the Supreme Court (SC) has today admitted that,” he said, and added that he was disheartened to hear the apex court remarks on the removal of people’s names from the Exit Control List (ECL).
“I would request the worthy judges not to make such kind of remarks. I am myself a law student. And I have removed the name of not a single person who would have been put on the ECL on court orders,” he clarified.
The minister said there were some people whose names had been on the list for the last 10 years. “The court made remarks without listening to me. It appeared as if I was representing a person whose name was on the no-fly list,” he regretted.
