Snow-capped Mount Etna erupts, ash clouds over Italy

Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano, has erupted in Italy, sending thick clouds of smoke and ash into the sky and prompting authorities to issue warnings for air travel.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the snow-covered volcano began spewing ash, creating dramatic scenes as plumes rose high above its slopes, according to foreign media reports.

Officials warned that the ash cloud could pose a serious risk to aircraft, advising airlines and travellers to remain cautious as monitoring continues.

Despite the eruption, skiers were seen continuing to ski along the slopes and valleys of Mount Etna, drawing attention to the striking contrast between the volcanic activity and winter sports.

Foreign media reported that Mount Etna rises to about 3,300 metres above sea level, making it one of the tallest active volcanoes in Europe.

Authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation and have urged people in nearby areas to follow safety guidelines in case the activity intensifies.
