Gilani to win with heavy majority, claims Khaqan Abbasi
Says Senate elections are election not no-confidence motion
Senior PML-N leader and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has claimed that PDM joint candidate for Senate elections from Islamabad, Yousaf Raza Gilani, will win the contest with a heavy margin, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to newsmen along with Ahsan Iqbal at Danyal Aziz’s dera in Narowal on Sunday, Khaqan Abbasi maintained that the Senate elections are just an election and not a no-confidence motion. He said he so far saw no role of the establishment in the Senate elections.
Khaqan Abbasi described the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision on the Daska by-election as an excellent one. “What will happen now in Senate elections will be before everyone to see,” he added.
He said the disappearance of presiding officers in the Daska by-election was strange and unique. “Nothing like that had happened in the history of Pakistan,” he added.
The former prime minister maintained that there was no agreement between the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the ‘khalayi makhlooq’ – a reference toward the establishment.
“The accountability process is a failure as Hamza Shehbaz is out of the jail after 20 months,” he said added it’s nothing but political vendetta. “The courts should have taken notice and disposed of it earlier,” he further said.
