Pakistan tops 200,000 corona cases

Pakistan has surpassed 200,000 coronavirus cases but the number of daily infections has witnessed a slight decline.
The number of officially confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country rose to 202,955 as 4,072 more people tested positive for the coronavirus during the past 24 hours (Saturday).
The latest data released by National Command and Operation Centre on Sunday also showed that the death toll has climbed up to 4,118 with another 83 patients dying during the last 24 hours.
Sindh continued to top the list of the most-affected regions in Pakistan with the number of cases reaching 78,267. It is followed by Punjab where 74,202 cases have so far been reported.
The numbers for other parts of the country are: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 25,380, Islamabad 12,395, Balochistan 10,261, Gilgit-Baltistan 1,423 and Azad Kashmir 1,027.
But it is Punjab where most of the deaths are being reported with the figures currently standing at 1,673 followed by 1,243 in Sindh, 914 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 122 in Islamabad, 114 in Balochistan, 28 in Azad Kashmir and 24 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Meanwhile, 2,729 coronavirus patients are currently in critical condition and being treated at different hospitals in the country.
These critically-ill patients are among the 106,213 cases currently active in the country. The remaining have been closed with the death of 4,118 patients and another 92,624 fully recovering from the infection.
As far as testing is concerned, another 25,013 tests were conducted in different parts of the country on Saturday after which the overall number reached 12,39,153.
Earlier, Pakistan had surpassed Germany and Turkey in terms of the number of coronavirus cases Thursday. Pakistan is now 12th most-affected country in the world behind Mexico which has a higher infection rate. Germany has slipped to 14th place on the list with 194,689 cases. Turkey is 13th with the number of cases currently standing at 195,883.
