Heavy rain lashes Karachi, NDMA warns of flooding across the country 

Heavy rain lashed Karachi on Saturday causing urban flooding in various parts of the city, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel. 

Karachi received a total of 17.8 mm of rainfall. The highest rainfall in the city was recorded in Surjani Town at 58 mm. Gulshan-e-Hadid received 37 mm, University Road 24 mm, Shahrah-e-Faisal 31 mm, while Gulshan-e-Maymar recorded 37 mm of rain. 

Rainfall in other parts of the city included 20.5 mm in Nazimabad, 18.2 mm near the Old Airport, 25.2 mm in Korangi, 19.4 mm in Orangi Town, 47.5 mm in Saadi Town, 25.5 mm in Defence, 18.5 mm in Keamari, 29.2 mm at Jinnah Terminal, and 10 mm at Masroor Base. 

Meanwhile two people were killed and one injured in a lightning strike near Nangarparkar in Tharparkar district of Sindh. 

In another incident, one person was killed and another injured when lightning struck two people riding a motorcycle in village Bando. Additionally, one person died in a field in the village of Karai due to a lightning strike. 

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high alert for possible heavy rainfall and flooding across several regions of Pakistan over the next 24 to 48 hours, warning both the public and local administrations to take urgent precautionary measures. 

According to an NDMA spokesperson, glacial melting combined with intense rainfall could trigger floods in Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, and the Kumrat Valley. Specific high-risk areas in GB include Badswat, Hanarchi, Tarsat, Hundur, and Darkot, where a rapid rise in water levels is anticipated due to glacial outburst floods (GLOFs). 

The authority has also forecast urban flooding in multiple cities of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, and Kotli, as well as in densely populated urban centres like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Kasur, and Mandi Bahauddin.
