Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori proposed a 40 per cent increase in the salaries of the employees of the government and private sectors.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, he sent a letter to the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and urged that the minimum wage may be set to at least Rs50,000 per month for private sector employees.
Tessori said in the letter, "It is an undeniable fact that the common man is leading a miserable life owing to the unprecedented inflation these days. This price hike, particularly of essential commodities, has a number of causes including unjust profiteering, imbalances in demand and supply, and definitely, the colossal floods in the country, which have destructed standing crops on hundreds of thousands of acres of land.
In the nutshell, inflation has intensified people's suffering manifold, and the most affected segment is the salaried class, be it of the public sector or private sector. Every festivity of life turns a challenge for them. Most likely, they do not have any avenue for an increase in their income as well, and it is becoming day by day next to impossible for them to make both ends meet.
It must be appreciated that the Government of Sindh always comes up as a trendsetter for public well-being issues. Particularly, the Government of Sindb has always earned a lead by raising more than the Federal and other provincial governments at the time of the budget, in the salaries end pensions of the government employees.
I, therefore, recommend you that in the forthcoming budget, salaries and pensions of government employees may be raised by at least 40 per cent for extending a sigh of relief in their lives. I also urge that the minimum wage may also be set to at least Rs50,000/- per month for the private sector employee in this budget.
Your good-self may agree that though it would still not be commensurate to the extent of rising inflation, however, certainly it would help them make their domestic budgeting possible. I am eagerly anticipating your kind orders to the concerned offices for the completion of all formalities for the purpose well before the budget dates, please."
