Two passengers offloaded at Karachi airport over fake educational documents

Immigration officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) conducted a targeted operation at the Jinnah International Airport, foiling an attempt by two passengers to travel abroad using fake educational certificates.

According to an FIA spokesperson, the passengers—identified as Mehran Anjum and Jehanzeb Toor, both residents of Gujranwala—were offloaded while trying to board a flight to North Cyprus.

Officials said the suspects presented Matric, Intermediate and BBA degree certificates, which appeared to be attested by relevant authorities including IBCC, HEC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, during scrutiny, the documents raised suspicion.

Upon investigation, both individuals failed to verify their academic records and later admitted that they had never pursued the stated education. The FIA revealed that the fake certificates had been arranged through an agent, who was reportedly paid Rs 2.5 million for the process.

Authorities described the case as part of an organised fraud network involving the use of forged documents for illegal immigration purposes. The suspects have been handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC) Karachi for legal action, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the scheme.
