Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) workers announced a strike against non-payment of their salaries through the Treasury from Monday, November 29.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the workers announced on Sunday that the public offices would be locked and sit-in to be staged during the strike.

All Pakistan Local Government Workers Federation (APLGWF) Sindh President Syed Zulfiqar Shah said the government had not implemented the decision to pay salaries of Grade One to 16 from the treasury.

He said that therefore, 100,000 employees across the province of Sindh including Karachi would hold protests by locking their offices.

The federation president said that the protests would be held in the KMC, seven DMCs, three municipal corporations of Sindh, he said adding that employees of 37 municipal committees, 151 town committees and 25 district councils of Sindh will also be part of the protest.

Shah also declared that the strike would continue till the issuance of salary notification from the treasury.

It is pertinent to mention here that the strike is expected to disrupt clean-up operations in the city as the KMC workers collect 14,000 tons of garbage from Karachi alone.
