Investigation Officer records statement in Sara Inam murder case

Habibur Rehman, Investigation Officer (IO) in the murder case of Sara Inam, daughter-in-law of renowned journalist Ayaz Ameer, recorded his statement in Islamabad’s District and Sessions Court on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sara’s father Inamur Raheem was in tears during the hearing of the case.

The investigation officer (IO) told Sessions Jude Azam Khan that the police had failed to recover the license of the Kalashnikov AK-47 rifle from Shah Nawaz Ameer, the main suspect in the case and also Sara’s husband.  

Quoting Shah Nawaz, the officer said that he had told interrogators that he had kept the rifle for his safety.

The IO, however, informed the court that the police had succeeded in recovering a Mercedes car from the suspect which he had bought with the money belonging to Sara.

He further said that the deceased’s father had provided the police USB in which were stored Shah Nawaz’s voice messages to Sara.

The officer told the court that the police had also obtained the main suspect’s bank statement spreading over 17 pages. 

Habib went on to say that the police had arrested Shah Nawaz from the crime scene. “Apart from that a dumbbell was also found from the crime scene,” he revealed.

“The suspect himself showed to the police his five passports and five cellphones,” the IO explained.

He informed that it was in light of the deceased uncle’s statement that the main suspect’s father, renowned columnist Ayaz Ameer, and mother Samina Shah were nominated in the case.

Later, his father was arrested from Fazai Colony, and a cell phone was recovered from him.

Furthermore, he told the court that the police had also penned down a letter to the FIA in which they sought documents that could shed light on Sara’s travel history.

The officer further said that Shah Nawaz had confessed to having burnt his wife’s passport besides breaking her cell phone and throwing it away. “Furthermore, the main suspect also showed to the police Sara’s purse containing foreign currency notes,” he elaborated.
