The Home Ministry Punjab has taken a decisive step towards rectifying unauthorized fees imposed by the Inspector General (IG) Punjab Police on the verification case of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and private security agencies.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the IG Punjab Police had imposed a fee of Rs10,000 per case of the authentication of the NGOs and private security agencies through the decision of the Police Executive Board.

The Home Ministry penned a letter to the IG Punjab to cease this fee, seeking clarification from him regarding the legal basis for its imposition.

Additionally, the Home Ministry emphasized that the IG Punjab cannot levy such fees through the Police Executive Board as the authority to impose fees rests solely with the Cabinet.

Furthermore, the Home Ministry also highlighted the imposition of illegal fees from the IG Police in a summary sent to the Chief Minister's office.

As per the channel report, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has marked the summary for inquiry.
