PMA condemns police brutality against peaceful health professionals

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has strongly condemned the violent police crackdown on peaceful health professionals, protesting against the privatization of healthcare services.

An emergency meeting of the PMA was held at PMA House Lahore on Tuesday, presided over by the association’s central president, Dr Izhar Ahmad Chaudhry. 

During the meeting, PMA office bearers termed the registration of terrorism charges against doctors as a form of state terrorism, completely rejecting such oppressive actions. 

The association declared these measures as an alarming indicator of societal and moral decline, warning that the nation has reached an extreme low in democratic and human rights standards.

Particular concern was raised over the treatment of female doctors, who were reportedly subjected to manhandling and humiliation on the streets of Lahore. 

The PMA described the incidents as shameful, condemnable, and reflective of the government’s willingness to go to any lengths to protect personal egos and vested interests.

PMA leaders reiterated their unwavering support for the ongoing protest against the privatization of public health services, stating that the association would continue to support health professionals through all possible means in their constitutional struggle for rights and justice.

 The meeting was attended by a large number of senior PMA officials, including Kamran Saeed, Dr Aleem Nawaz, Dr Nader Khan, Dr Riaz Zulqarnain, Prof Dr Shahid Malik, Dr Wajid Ali, Prof Dr Ashraf Nizami, Dr Iram Shahzadi, and numerous members of the provincial council.
