Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday announced that the Centre and the Sindh government would act jointly to address the three main problems faced by Karachi.

In this connection, Imran Khan said the nullahs would be cleaned once for all and also promised to deal with the encroachments which impede the flow in water channels.

The prime minister, in a series of tweets, also said that a permanent solution would also be devised to address the issue of solid waste management and sewerage-related problems.

Moreover, the federal and provincial government would also resolve the critical issue of water supply for the citizens of Karachi, Imran added in a series of tweets.

He said the whole nation felt the pain the people in Karachi are going through. However, Imran added, there was a positive development “out of this devastation” and sufferings as the federal and provincial governments were moving to immediately act and resolve the major problems of Karachi.

The country’s financial hub is facing this urban flooding due to the shrinking or even vanishing nullahs and water channels due to the illegal structures/ encroachments.

Furthermore, the inability to dispose of over 15,000 tonnes of waste daily is complicating the issue besides creating a sanitation issue by choking the waterways and sewerage system.

Meanwhile, KARACHI, which is home to at least 15 million people, is facing acute shortage of drinking water for years now.
