Sindh announces public holiday on Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai

The caretaker government of Sindh has declared 1 September 2023 (Friday), a public holiday in the province to commemorate the Urs (death anniversary) of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to a notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department on Monday, “The Government of Sindh of Sindh declares 14th Safar 1445 (A.H) 01st September, 2023 (Friday), as Public Holiday throughout the province of Sindh on the occasion of Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (R.A),” said the notification.

The notification added that all offices, autonomous, semi-autonomous bodies, Corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the government of Sindh shall remain closed during the public holiday.

Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is a revered Sufi saint, poet, and scholar. His Urs is commemorated by thousands of devotees at his shrine in Bhit Shah, Sindh.

The event includes recitations of his poetry, musical renditions of his kalam (writings), and various other religious and cultural activities.
