In a major development, preparations are afoot for signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between NAB and FBI – the US top agency – with Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari opposing the move, saying it would open a political Pandora’s box, said 24NewsHD TV channel in an exclusive report on Tuesday.
Her reaction came as the MoU is now part of the federal cabinet’s agenda, which has been scheduled to meet today (Tuesday).
Earlier, 14 ministers supported the deal when they were asked about the issue through summary circulation. Meanwhile, another 13 did not respond.
However, Mazari came out openly against allowing the US agency to have access and said the NAB and the FBI were two totally different organisations.
According to the human rights minister, the FBI is responsible for maintaining law and order at local level while the NAB deals with financial corruption.
“The agreement between NAB and FBI will open a political Pandora’s box,” she warned and added that giving FBI any access to Pakistan would trigger a new debate.
