Former Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director General Major (r) Masood Sharif Khan Khattak passed away on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

He was admitted to Combined Military Hospital Rawalpindi a few days ago with the complaint of multiple ailments. 

Major Masood Sharif Khan Khattak was born on June 5, 1950, in the Billand Kala village of Karak district. 

Khattak was in charge of IB when it carried out the operation against MQM and apparently "15,000" MQM criminals died. He also led a famous intelligence operation named Midnight Jackals, which thwarted a military coup attempt on the elected PPP government in 1990.

He has also served as the Vice-President of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) under the leadership of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto. Later, he joined PTI.  Major Masood Sharif has contested the National Assembly election twice from Karak city.
