Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Sabtain Khan has been elected as Punjab Assembly Speaker defeating the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Saiful Malook Khokhar on Friday.

As per the results, PTI's Sabtain got 185 votes against PML-N's Saif who just bagged 175 votes.

The election was conducted in Punjab Assembly in which legislators from all the parties present in the House used their right to vote.

The Punjab Assembly’s Friday session is chaired by the Panel of Chairman Wasim Badozai. During the polling, the opposition party, the PML-N alleged foul play from the ruling PTI on which the chair temporarily halted the election process at 8 pm.

PML-N has fielded Saiful Malook Khokhar as its candidate for the slot of Speaker who made objections on serial numbers on ballot papers and threw them away on which the chair immediately called security inside the House to deal with any unpleasant situation.

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Opposition Leader Hamza Shehbaz also cast their votes.

PTI leader Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chauhan talking to the media in the premises of the PA said Sabtain Khan has won the election of Speaker. 

He said the voting was going on peacefully but Hamza Shahbaz saw the defeat and tried to sabotage the election process by provoking his parliamentary party members in the house.

Fayyaz said the a member of the Nawaz League threw a ballot paper’s copy on the face of an officer while Saif raised objections against the serial number on the ballot papers.

The PTI legislator added that a female legislator of the opposition party also tore up some ballot papers during the election process continuing in the House.

He said due to such kind of acts from the Nawaz League, the polling was stopped for half an hour. Reportedly, the chair called security inside the House during these incidents.

PTI leader Fayyaz said his party will also move a No Confidence Motion against the Deputy Speaker. He said Maryam Nawaz Sharif is a judicial criminal, the Supreme Court has granted her bail.
