14 prisoners escape from police van in Kahuta

Fourteen prisoners escaped from a prison van near Chakian Post in Kahuta while being shifted to Adiala Jail after a court appearance, police sources said.

According to police sources, the prison van was stopped for checking when one of the prisoners opened the door and threw chilli powder into the eyes of police personnel.

The prisoners then escaped from the van, prompting authorities to call in additional police contingents.

Police launched a search operation in Kahuta and nearby areas soon after the incident. Four of the escaped prisoners were re-arrested during the operation.

A search is underway for the remaining 10 prisoners.

Police sealed the entry and exit points of Kahuta and tightened the blockade around Chakian Post and adjoining areas.

Senior police officers reached the scene to supervise the search operation.

A heavy police force has been deployed in the area, while vehicle checks have been started on Kahuta Road to trace the escaped prisoners.

Security has been put on high alert in Kahuta, and citizens have been asked to immediately report any suspicious person to the police.
