SPSC challenges SHC order in Supreme Court over recruitment process

The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) has approached the Supreme Court, challenging orders of the Sindh High Court (SHC) that halted the recruitment process under the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE)-2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The appeal which was filed on Monday prayed the apex court to suspend the SHC Sukkur Bench’s order allowing candidates who did not get passing marks in one subject in the written examination, to appear for interviews which is against the rules.

Challinging the SHC’s September 16 2024 interim order, the SPSC urged the apex court to suspend the decision until the Supreme Court rules on its appeal.

The SHC had granted relief to Aftab Ahmad, Muhammad Tahir and Junaid Bashir who failed to pass one subject during the written examination of Combined Competitive Examination. Aftab Ahmad was declared unsuccessful in Urdu subject as he obtained only 32 marks while the passing marks have been set at 33.

Under the SPSC Regulations 2023, no candidate is allowed to seek grace marks, the appeal said, adding as per the regulations the candidate must obtain 33% marks in every single subject and 50% overall marks.
The appeal further said that the SHC Sukkur Bench had ordered the SPSC to submit sealed answer sheet of failed candidate’s Urdu/Sindhi paper.

Later, the SHC ordered the Commission to conduct candidate’s interview.
The commission said it was compulsory for it to guard the confidentiality of the papers.

Under the regulations, candidates’ answer sheets cannot be scrutinized again.
