England’s James Anderson knighted for outstanding services to cricket

England’s legendary fast bowler James Anderson has been awarded a knighthood in recognition of his outstanding services to cricket, 24NewsHD TV reported on Wednesday.

The honour was conferred upon him by Princess Anne during a ceremony held at Windsor Castle today.

The 43-year-old Anderson bid farewell to international cricket in July 2024 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, concluding a remarkable 21-year career with England.

 Over the course of his illustrious journey, Anderson represented his country in 188 Tests, 191 One-Day Internationals, and 19 T20 Internationals, claiming 704 Test wickets, 269 ODI wickets, and 18 T20 wickets, respectively.

He remains England’s highest wicket-taker across all formats and is regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history.

In Test cricket, Anderson stands third on the all-time list of wicket-takers, behind Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka (800 wickets) and Shane Warne of Australia (708 wickets).

The knighthood cements Anderson’s legacy as one of the sport’s true icons, honoured not only for his extraordinary skill and longevity but also for his contribution to elevating England’s standing in world cricket.
