Public transport network to be expanded in Islamabad

Capital Development Authority (CDA) is all set to solve the problem of public transport in the city as it going to operationalize 13 more bus routes within two phases, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

According to CDA Chairman, 13 bus routes will be covered by the city's public transportation system over the course of two phases. The authorities are preparing to create new routes for intracity public transportation service.

In the first phase, transport will be operated on six high-congestion routes with PIMS making as the central point.

Route 1 will start from Allama Iqbal Open University to via Shifa International Hospital and from I-8 Markaz to Potohar Station. 

A bus will be operational from PIMS to Secretariat via Jinnah Super and Supermarket.

The third route will include G7, G6, Melody Market, Abpara and Nadra via PIMS to Embassy Road.

In the fourth route, the service will run from F-11 to Red Line Metro station F-8.

A separate bus service to connect sectors G-8, G-9, G-10 and G-11 will run from PIMS.

Park Road service will be operated separately to connect Aabpara to Trami Chowk. 

Meanwhile, in the second phase, the bus services will be operated on a total of 7 routes in the same fashion. 

The service will be started from Police Foundation to Faiz Ahmed Faiz Red Line Metro Station.

Sector D-12 will be connected to Orange Line Metro at G-10 point. 

In order to connect the service to the main system, a service will be run from F-11 to F-8.

At the same time, a direct service will also be run from PIMS Hospital to Secretariat.

A special service will run from Nilore to Khanna Bridge to extend coverage of the service to rural areas. 

The service will go up to Chungi No. 26 to provide transportation options for the people living in the B-17 sector.

The Chairman of CDA Captain (Rtd) Muhammad Usman voiced his concerns to combat the traffic congestion and informed that the service will run from Faizabad to Peer Vidhai terminal after the completion of IJP road. 

Besides, PIMS will serve as the hub for the new routes, and the new service will also be connected to the Red Line and Orange Line Metro at various points.

A command and control system will also be developed for that reason in order to operate all transport systems.

In the meantime, the Feasibility of all new routes is in progress, tender documents have also been finalized and were sent for consultancy.
