Apex Committee vows to eliminate terrorism in all its forms, manifestations

Committee meeting also approves number of proposals to crack down on terrorists

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Moazzam Jah Ansari told the apex committee that met at Governor House, Peshawar with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the chair on Friday that the route the man took to reach Police Lines to blow himself up at the mosque had been traced with the help of videos, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The meeting took stock of the situation, arising out of recent incidents of terrorism in the province, especially the suicide bombing that claimed the lives of over 100 persons, mostly policemen, at Police Lines mosque.

Security officials, on the occasion, briefed participants of the meeting about the operation underway against terrorists in different parts of the country.

The meeting expressed the resolve that those who carried out the terrorist attack in Peshawar would be given exemplary punishment.

The meeting expressed the hope that the sacrifices of the people who lost their lives in the incident of terrorism at the mosque would not go in vain.

The participants assured the nation that they would do their best to protect their lives and properties.

The meeting also saluted the personnel of Pakistan Army, Rangers, police and other law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) for displaying extraordinary bravery against the terrorists and paid rich tributes to those who laid down their lives while defending the country.  

The meeting demanded all segments of the society, especially media, to show the same responsibility which they had shown earlier and refrain from spreading rumours and fake news relating to terrorism since that was detrimental to the country’s interests.

Participants of the meeting also reviewed progress on the National Action Plan and discussed proposals to make it more result-oriented.

Approval was given to the suggestions for the upgradation of NACTA, police, CTD and other LEAs besides the provision of latest weapons, arms and ammunition to them in order to enhance their capacity.

It was decided that CTD headquarters and forensic lab would be built in KP forthwith.

The meeting decided to launch ‘Safe City Project’ in the province just like it had been launched in Lahore and Islamabad.

The meeting also took stock of the situation on the country’s borders and suggestions were discussed as how to speedily prosecute terrorists so that they could be brought to justice.

It was agreed that the Center and the federating units would chalk out a common strategy to combat terrorism.

Participants of the meeting concurred that all sources of funding for terrorism would be choked.

It was decided that there would be a ‘zero tolerance’ for extremism in all its forms and manifestations.

The meeting also requested religious scholars to tell people that such incidents of terrorism are forbidden in Islam and there is no room to spill the blood of innocent people.

In the end, prayers were offered for the departed souls.  

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Maulana Asad Mehmood, caretaker chief ministers of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, COAS Gen Munir, all chief secretaries, and others were among the attendees of the meeting.
