Unidentified thieves stole precious life-saving medicines worth millions of rupees from Govt Sardar Begam Teaching Hospital (SBTH) Sialkot.

The theft incident exposed poor management and negligence on part of the hospital.

Though Khawaja Safdar Medical College (KSMC) Principle Prof Dr Tariq Mehmood Rehan has constituted a two member committee comprising Dr Saleem and Dr Tariq to investigate the medicine theft, the hospital management has appeared clueless about full details of the stolen medicines and culprits so far.

According to sources, the theft of medicines worth millions of rupees at the SBTH Hospital has actually taken place a month ago but the management kept a mum purposely. “Initially, efforts were made to sweep the issue under the carpet. But thanks to the technology as a footage showing the theft surfaced, forcing the management to confirm the theft incident”, the sources claimed.

24 NewsHD.tv has got CCTV footage of the medicines theft. According to the footage, unidentified “persons” are loading cartons of medicines onto vehicles.

According to the sources, the medicines including expensive anesthaesia medicines used during surgeries were sold to private medical stores.

“Officials connivance with the thieves could not be ruled out as it has happened in many government sector hospitals. The hospital management must take drastic measures to prove its sincerity and diligence in the matter”, health sources emphasised while alluding to influential officials.

KSMC Principle Prof Dr Tariq Rehan has expressed his resolve to dig out facts about the medicine theft and track down the culpriyts.
