Heavy rains: Boon for some, bane for others

Several cities of Pakistan have received heavy rains and hailstorms bringing the temperature down in several areas whereas damaging wheat crops in several districts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Wheat crop has been badly affected due to the heavy rainfall in several cities. According to details, in areas like Layyah, Hafizabad, Nowshera, Wazirabad Saturday night’s rainfall in the wheat harvesting season has completely destroyed the efforts of the farmers. 

In many areas like Layyah, Hafizabad and Attock, the farmers have threatened to stage a protest by blocking the roads if they are not given proper and urgent relief by the government. They also demanded to raise the matter in the assembly or else farmers will protest by blocking roads if their losses are not compensated.

Moreover farmers have also demanded the government to waive electricity bills in order to compensate the losses.

Farmers in Punjab’s Attock district sought government’s help after rain and hailstorm destroyed their wheat crop.

Over 12 hours of rain and hailstorms have battered Attock’s Fateh Jang, Hassan Abdal and Hazro areas.

Meanwhile the rain has also resulted in loss of electric supply in several cities. Swat district has been without power for the past several hours due to the heavy downpour and several electric feeders around Wazirabad has been without electric supply.

The level of water rose sharply in River Swat after heavy rains which inundated many residential areas in the valley.

The Saturday night’s rainfall has also caused some injuries as according to reports; a tree fell on a rickshaw due to strong wind and rain near Khanpur where a woman got seriously injured. The injured woman was provided first aid by rescue services at the spot and was then transferred to a local hospital where her situation remains critical.

Rain in parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa brought down the heat significantly.

Many people spent the night without power and were especially annoyed that the power outage lasted till well after sehri.

In several areas, roads were flooded and reports also came in of water entering houses.

Rain was reported in Mianwali, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Shakkargarh, Peshawar and Swat, among other areas.
