PM grateful for world response to Pakistan flood

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that more than 1,000 people including 300 children died in the floods, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

Talking to international media reps, the prime minister expressed his gratitude to the international community for the timely response to flood relief activities in the country that has been facing the worst disaster.

He said Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have been hit hard. Crops have been destroyed. Flood victims are in urgent need of food, water, and other goods. More than 3500km of roads were damaged, he added.

In a tweet, the prime minister expressed his gratitude to the United Nations for launching a $160 million flash appeal for the flood-hit people in Pakistan.

Briefing the world media reps the PM said the devastation is evidence of the seriousness of the threat posed by climate change.

He said despite having less than one percent share in carbon emission, Pakistan is ranked 8th in terms of exposure to climate hazards.

Shehbaz Sharif said the international community, particularly the developed world, should not leave developing countries like Pakistan at the mercy of climate change.
