Dubai court orders seller to refund Dh765,000 over luxury car fraud

A luxury car seller in Dubai has been ordered to refund Dh765,000 to a buyer after a court found that key details about the vehicle, including its model year and country of manufacture, had been altered, 24NewsHD TV reported.

The Dubai Civil Court cancelled the sale agreement and ordered the seller to pay the buyer Dh765,000, along with Dh30,000 in compensation and Dh1,000 towards expenses, in addition to attorney fees.

The case began after a man purchased the luxury vehicle for Dh765,000. After completing the deal and having the car inspected by authorised authorities, the buyer discovered that its actual country of manufacture and model year did not match the information provided at the time of sale.

The buyer then approached the court and requested the appointment of an expert to examine the vehicle.

The expert’s report found major differences in the car’s technical identification. The inspection revealed that the actual model year differed from the one stated in the sales agreement.

The report also found discrepancies in the vehicle’s registration data and information about its country of manufacture.

An electronic inspection further showed that the vehicle was technically older than claimed, while its electronic systems displayed a different model year.

After reviewing the evidence, the court cancelled the sales contract and ordered the seller to return the full Dh765,000 purchase price to the buyer.

The seller was also ordered to pay Dh30,000 in damages, Dh1,000 in expenses, and the buyer’s legal costs.
