A judicial magistrate court in Islamabad on Monday rejected the police request to extend the physical remand of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry in a sedition case, reported 24 NewsHD TV channel.

The court, however, sent Fawad Ch to jail on judicial remand.

The police presented the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader before the magistrate court today after the expiry of his two-day physical remand that was granted on Saturday after quick hearings.

Earlier, at the outset of the hearing, police did not produce Fawad before the court. The DSP Legal told the judge that Fawad’s photogrammetric test was completed but his medical test was yet to be conducted. The judge adjourned the hearing.

Fawad Ch’s counsel Babar Awan requested Judicial Magistrate Waqas Ahmed Raja to resume the hearing at the earliest.

At this, the judge directed the police to produce the PTI leader at 11:30am after carrying out his medical examination, however, the authorities failed to present him at the given time but assured the court that he would be produced by 3pm.

When the hearing was resumed in the afternoon, the judge rejected the police’s request to extend Fawad’s physical remand and sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Fawad was taken into custody on Wednesday morning after an FIR was registered against him at Islamabad’s Kohsar police station by an official of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for “threatening” members of the commission, including the chief, and their families.
