Bank timings extended on Jan 31 for tax collection

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced an extension in banks’ working hours on Saturday, January 31, to facilitate taxpayers in depositing duties and taxes, following a request from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to the SBP, all bank branches that are scheduled to operate on Saturday will remain open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm to ensure smooth tax collection.

The central bank stated that National Bank of Pakistan’s (NBP) customs collection branches will also observe the extended hours to assist taxpayers in clearing their dues.

To provide maximum convenience, the SBP has directed banks to offer over-the-counter tax payment facilities throughout the extended working hours on Saturday.

In addition, instructions have been issued to keep necessary bank branches open as required for NIFT clearing operations, ensuring that interbank transactions and cheque clearances related to tax payments are processed without delay.

The SBP also emphasized that online tax payment channels must remain fully operational without interruption. Taxpayers can use internet banking, mobile banking applications, ATMs and other digital platforms for seamless payment of taxes.

The move aims to support the FBR in achieving its revenue collection targets while providing extended access and convenience to taxpayers across the country.
