Gaza death toll surpasses 60,000 as famine and aid crisis deepen

The death toll in Gaza exceeded 60,000 on Tuesday, with most of the day’s fatalities reportedly shot while trying to access aid.

The world’s leading food crisis authority warned that the “worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out” in the territory, home to more than 2 million people, as starvation-related deaths continue to rise.

The United Nations said that humanitarian aid, particularly food, remains grossly insufficient, further worsening the crisis.

International pressure is mounting on Israel's main ally, the United States, as American public support for Israeli military operations drops significantly.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the U.K. will recognize a Palestinian state in September unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire.

Gaza death toll rises to 83 since dawn

Israeli attacks have killed at least 83 people since dawn in multiple actions across the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reported, citing medical sources.

Among those killed, 33 were aid seekers, according to the hospital sources.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported earlier, since the war began in October 2023, Israeli attacks on the enclave have killed 60,034 people and wounded 145,870 others.
