CII rules cornea donation and transplantation permissible under Islamic law

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) meets in Islamabad to address regional developments, religious issues, legal matters, healthcare and environmental protection. 

The CII declared that the publication of sketches of revered Islamic personalities on a private TV channel was impermissible under Islamic law. It urged all media outlets to refrain from broadcasting or publishing content deemed disrespectful towards the Prophet, Ahl-e-Bait, the Companions (Sahaba), and Ummahat-ul-Momineen. 

The council sustained that merely removing controversial content was insufficient and demanded legal action against those responsible. It also urged the media to maintain a balance between freedom of expression and respect for religious sensitivities. 

The council endorsed the restoration of punishment for attempted suicide and stated that the Islamabad High Court's ruling regarding matrimonial assets was inconsistent with Islamic injunctions. 

Reviewing the Family Courts (Amendment) Bill 2026, the council also issued clarification on matters relating to child maintenance. In the healthcare sector, the Council of Islamic Ideology ruled that cornea donation and transplantation are permissible under Islamic law, subject to specified conditions and medical necessity. 

The council further supported federal legislation banning plastic covers and called for similar laws at the provincial level to strengthen environmental protection efforts. 

The council praised Pakistan's diplomatic efforts to help secure a ceasefire between Iran and the United States. It also called for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the importance of uninterrupted international maritime trade. Islamic Ideology Council expressed satisfaction over peaceful conduct of Muharram.
