LHC upholds death sentence of murder convict

Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed the appeal of a man convicted of murdering a citizen during a robbery by upholding his death sentence. 

A two-member LHC bench, comprising Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry and Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem, rejected the appeal filed by convict Muhammad Rizwan against his capital punishment and confirmed the death sentence awarded by the trial court.

According to the prosecution, Muhammad Rizwan was found guilty of killing Shehbaz Mahmood during a robbery in 2020. The convict was arrested and the murder case was registered at Batala Colony Police Station in Faisalabad. 

Deputy Prosecutor General Sheikh Muhammad Asif opposed the convict's appeal, arguing that the prosecution had proved its case beyond doubt. Meanwhile, the defense counsel sought Rizwan's acquittal but failed to satisfy the court.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the two-member bench dismissed the appeal and upheld the death sentence.
