South Air gets licence for regional flight operations

The Civil Aviation Authority has issued a licence to South Air to operate special flights at regional airports in Pakistan, including secondary airports in Balochistan, officials said.

According to airline officials, South Air will start operations with two 72-seater ATR aircraft.

The airline has been granted the licence for regional routes as part of efforts to promote tourism and improve air connectivity with smaller cities.

Officials said South Air also plans to launch special flight operations for Gilgit and Chitral in the future.

A 42-seater aircraft will be purchased specifically for operations to Gilgit and Chitral, airline officials said.

The airline is expected to focus on regional and tourism-related routes where smaller aircraft are considered more suitable because of airport and terrain conditions.

Officials said the launch of South Air’s regional operations would help improve access to underserved destinations and support domestic tourism.
