Despite their refusal to join the federal service, at least 29 ranker officers of Punjab police have been inducted into the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

A notification, issued in this regard, said that 29 ranker Superintendents of Police (SPs) of Punjab police have been inducted into the PSP cadre.

About six months ago, 20 SPs of Punjab police had refused to join the PSP cadre, stating that their inclusion in the PSP cadre would affect their seniority.

They said that the ranker police officers were promoted to the rank of SP in 2018, and, with their inclusion in the PSP cadre from 2021, many SPs would become juniors in the seniority list.

“The ranker police officers, like the officials of other provincial departments, should be promoted under the provincial service rules,” they had demanded.

Now, the ranker SPs have decided to go to the court over their inclusion in the PSP cadre despite their refusal to join the federal service.

The notification for their inclusion in the PSP cadre will now be implemented after the decision of the writ petition filed by four SPs in the court.

Ehsan Chauhan, Khalid Mehmood Afzal, Asim Iftikhar, Mansoor Qamar, Tanveer Malik, Shahida Naureen, Imran Karamat Bukhari, Muhammad Ashraf and Jalil Imran are among the police officers who have been added to the PSP cadre.
