The Law Ministry has prepared a draft to extend the tenure of NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal through an ordinance, sources said on Thursday.

According to the insiders, the prime minister has been advised to give an extension to the NAB chairman. 

They said that Justice (r) Javed Iqbal will keep serving the post of NAB chairman till a new chairman is appointed, 

The tenure of a NAB chairman cannot be extended under Section 6 (b) of the NAB Ordinance 1999, the sources said.

They added that the proposed draft would be discussed in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan. Justice (r) Javed Iqbal’s term will end on October 8.
