Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the presidential ordinance, making it binding on members of the parliament to take oath within 60 days of their election, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The petition reads that PML-N is the largest opposition party in both Houses of the parliament namely National Assembly (NA) and Senate, with 82 MNAs and 16 senators, respectively.
It further says that the next general elections are to be held in 2023 while those for Senate in 2024.
It is alleged in the petition that the ordinance, which was promulgated within one month of the adjournment of the NA session, was issued with a mala fide intent since its aim was to target the PML-N. “Therefore, it is prayed to the court to declare the ordinance null and void,” the petition concludes.
