The International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, presently visiting the country to hold negotiations with the government, has been briefed in detail about the losses caused by floods in Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

Sources told the 24NewsTV channel that in their meeting with the officials of the governments of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), members of the delegation were informed of the devastation caused by the deluge in these two provinces.

The Fund would be briefed about the losses Punjab had suffered today, they elaborated.

Sources further said that the visitors were informed that there had been no losses in Balochistan.

The assessment of the impact of floods on the country’s economy and budgetary targets is on the agenda of talks between Pakistan and the international money-lending organization.

Sources informed that the IMF was reviewing in detail the post-flood situation, including the expenditures incurred on the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Monday briefed the IMF delegation about the overall economic situation of the country.

The minister also informed the delegation about the progress made by the government in meeting the targets set by the IMF under the $7 billion External Fund Facility (EFF) programme.

Technical talks between Pakistan and the Fund had started on September 25.

However, due to the absence of the finance minister, the talks formally began today.

Both sides also held discussions for the first review of the climate financing programme.

The governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), FBR chairman, secretary finance and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.

Four days ago, on Thursday, the IMF mission had arrived in Pakistan to hold the second review of its $7 billion External Fund Facility (EFF) and first review of the $1.4 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) loan programmes for the country.

The Fund had approved a $7 billion bailout package for Pakistan under its EFF programme in September last year.

In May 2025, it approved a separate $1.4 billion loan to Pakistan.

The mission had arrived in Pakistan a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with the Fund’s Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations’ General Assembly session.

During the meeting on Wednesday, Shehbaz spoke about Pakistan’s progress in meeting the IMF programme targets but also demanded that the impact of recent floods on the country’s economy must also be taken into account.
