NCHD teachers in Quetta protest against shamefully low wages

Quetta witnessed a protest demonstration by teachers of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) on Sunday, as they decried their “shamefully low” salaries of only 12,000 rupees every six months, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the protesting educators said they had been working on contract for the past five years, but in the face of record-breaking inflation, their earnings remain shockingly inadequate. 

“We work more than permanent staff, yet our wages are next to nothing. Imagine receiving just twelve thousand rupees for six months of teaching; it is humiliating,” one demonstrator said.

The teachers demanded that under labour laws, their pay must be increased immediately. They also insisted on being regularised after years of contractual service, rather than being repeatedly shifted from one contract to another under the Basic Education Framework (BEF).

“If our demands are ignored, we will expand the scope of our protest across the province,” the teachers warned, threatening to escalate their movement if authorities fail to respond.
