Sherani cannot form JUI-Pakistan as Fazl already leads it
Amid the tall claims about a new beginning and launching the original Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI), it seems Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani doesn’t even know the actual name of the party in which he spent years.
In this connection, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday that Sherani was facing difficulties [if not an improbable task] of getting his new party Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Pakistan (JUI-P). But what is the reason?
Well! Three different parties with the initial name of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) are currently registered with the ECP (Election Commission of Pakistan). Their official names are: JUI-P, JUI-N (Nazriati) and JUI-S (Sami-ul-Haq).
So there is no JUI-F in Pakistan. But about all the media reporting with reference to Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman-led JUI-F? It is a common blunder or misconception for not having updated information as the ECP documents show that it is actually JUI-P which Fazl heads.
Earlier this year in March, the erstwhile JUI-F had filed an application with the ECP, requesting to remove “Fazl-ur-Rehman” from its name and add “Pakistan” (P) instead, which had been accepted.
As far as the other factions are concerned, Maulana Khalil Ahmed and Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq are the heads of JUI-N and JUI-S.
It was in 1988 when late Maulana Sami-ul-Haq had parted ways with Fazl after the death of his father Maulana Abdul Haq and formed JUI-S – his own faction of JUIP. So the two groups were known as JUI-F and JUI-S since then after the breakup of JUIP.
Later in 1997, Maulana Asmatullah too decided to leave JUI-F and got his own party JUI-N registered.
