Karachi Bar withdraws strike call after talks over lawyers’ violence case

The Karachi Bar Association Wednesday withdrew its call for a strike at the City Court following developments in the case related to the alleged non-registration of a violence case against YouTuber Rajab Butt and others, reported 24newshd TV channel.

Speaking to the media, Karachi Bar Association President Aamir Nawaz Warraich said the Sindh Bar Council had initially announced a strike to protest the failure to register a case over violence against lawyers. However, the situation eased after contact was established with Rajab Butt’s lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq.

Warraich said Mian Ali Ashfaq expressed willingness to resolve the matter amicably, adding that the Karachi Bar Association also preferred dialogue over confrontation. He said Rajab Butt’s lawyer is expected to visit the Karachi Bar on January 3, where the positions of both parties will be heard.

According to the Karachi Bar president, the association will act as a mediator to help resolve the dispute through talks. He further said both sides have agreed to observe a “social media ceasefire” to prevent further escalation of the issue.

Warraich said any issues arising would be settled amicably and confirmed that the case registered against a lawyer would not be pursued further. He added that the Karachi Bar Association has decided to suspend the matter indefinitely.

Following these developments, the strike call was formally withdrawn.
