29 assistant professors appointed to PIMS to address shortage of doctors

The federal government on Friday took a major step to address the shortage of doctors at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the largest government hospital in the capital, by appointing 29 assistant professors across various departments.

The appointments, approved by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), are for Grade 18 positions and have been made under provincial, regional and women quotas to ensure balanced representation.

The newly appointed assistant professors will serve in departments including general medicine, critical care, neurology, obstetrics and gynaecology, cardiology, urology, ophthalmology, pulmonology, radiology, pediatric medicine, ENT, nephrology, gastroenterology, pediatric surgery, anesthesia, general surgery, orthopedic and emergency medicine.

The selected candidates include Maria Zafar, Dr. Ameena Zulfiqar, Naila Parveen, Haris Majid Rajput, Ayesha Javed, Uzma Almas, Waleed Bin Mansoor, Malik Ali Raza, Muhammad Mohsin Ayaz, Saba Niazi, Sana Gul, Fatima Imran, Farheen Raza, Maryam Naseer, Syed Ansab Hasnain Naqvi, Zahid Al-Zahedeen, Sambal Andleeb, Mehrukh Ali, Sharza Sharafat Ali, Sadia Ismat, Qudsia Rasool, Farooq Gulzar Khawaja, Ayesha Shamim Siddiqui, Samira Ashraf, Muhammad Farhan Farhat, Ambreen Farooq, Zeresh, Lailma Shah Sherani and Abdullah.

However, the FPSC noted that the nomination for one neurosurgery post has been postponed due to a petition filed in the Islamabad High Court, and the process for alternative nominations for 16 more posts is currently underway. Other candidates were disqualified due to failure in interviews or low merit.

This development is expected to strengthen PIMS’s medical services and improve patient care at the federal capital’s premier government hospital.
