The trend of a marked decline in the number of new coronavirus is being sustained, as another 903 people were diagnosed with the infection during the past 24 hours (Thursday).

According to the latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Friday morning, the overall number of coronavirus cases has reached 278,305 with this latest addition.

In this scenario, the number of active cases too is obviously decreasing. Currently, there 25,177 coronavirus patients in the country. Out of these 1,146 are in a critical condition and being treated in the intensive care units of different hospitals across the country.

This continuous slide in the number of active cases is because of the fact that 247,177 people have so far fully recovered from the infection.

Moreover, the total number of tests administered since the coronavirus pandemic outbreak has now reached 1,973,237 after another 20,507 people were tested for the virus.

As far as the deaths are concerned, 27 people died of the virus during the past 24 hours, raising the toll to 5,951. Most of these deaths are reported in Sindh where the deadly virus has claimed 2,209 lives.

The figures for other provinces/ regions are: Punjab 2,140, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1,194, Islamabad 165, Balochistan 136, Azad Kashmir 54 and Gilgit-Baltistan 53.

When it comes to the officially recorded coronavirus cases, Sindh tops the list with 120,550 infections followed 92,873 in Punjab, 33,958 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,014 in Islamabad, 11,732 in Balochistan, 2,105 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 2,073 in Azad Kashmir.
