Ex-AAP Leader Tahir Hussain awarded life imprisonment in Delhi riots 2020 murder case

A Delhi court on Friday sentenced former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and ex-councillor Tahir Hussain to life imprisonment in connection with the killing of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 Delhi riots, 24NewsHD TV reported.

Additional Sessions Judge Parveen Singh delivered the verdict, awarding life sentences to Hussain and four other convicts found guilty in the case.

The prosecution had accused Tahir Hussain and the co-convicts of murdering Ankit Sharma during the communal violence that erupted in northeast Delhi in February 2020.

Tahir Hussain was elected as a councillor from northeast Delhi on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket in 2017.

However, the party suspended him after his arrest in multiple cases linked to the 2020 Delhi riots.

The case is one of the most prominent prosecutions arising from the 2020 Delhi violence, which claimed dozens of lives and left hundreds injured.
