46 cases reported as Jhelum people falling victim to sandfly attacks

As many as 46 cases of sandfly bite have been reported in Jhelum district, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
People in different areas of Pind Dadan Khan, a city in Jhelum district, have reportedly been falling victim to skin diseases in sandfly attacks.
There are children too among the victims of the sandfly bite cases, the Health Department sources have said.
“Sandfly is found in areas where there are hills, forests and coal mines,” CEO Health Dr Akhtar said.
“The sandfly cannot fly. It travels by jumping from one place to another,” he added.
“The body catches fever and then wounds appear after a sandfly bites,” he stated.
“Two cases have been confirmed. The affected persons are being vaccinated. Fumigation is being carried out to eliminate the sandfly in the affected areas,” he added.
