Arshad Nadeem wins gold with massive throw at Asia Athletics C’ship

Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem won gold medal in the Asian Athletics Championship in javelin throw defeating a set of players including from India in South Korean city of Gumi on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Arshad Nadeem has once again made the nation proud by making a massive 86.40-meter throw and led the field in the men’s javelin final.

India’s Sachin Yadav took the silver medal with a 85.16-meter and Japan’s Yuta Sakiyama won the bronze medal with an 83.75-meter throw.

Pakistan's Muhammad Yasir threw 70.53 meter and 75.39m.

 

Arshad showcased an outstanding performance at the Asian championship, maintaining the top position throughout the final round. In his third attempt, Arshad threw an impressive 85.57 meters, putting him ahead of all the other competitors. 

He continued to impress by throwing 83.99 meters in his fourth attempt. After five rounds, he remained firmly in first place on the leaderboard.

In a spectacular final attempt, Arshad delivered his best throw of the day, reaching 86.40 meters, securing his lead and ultimately winning the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Arshad has become the first Pakistani in over 50 years to win a gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships, marking Pakistan's first gold since 1973 when the country last claimed top honours in javelin throw and 800 meters—won by Allah Dada and Muhammad Younis, respectively, during the event in the Philippines.

In addition, India’s Sachin Yadav secured second place, winning the silver medal. His longest throw was 85.16 meters, achieved on his sixth attempt.

Japan’s Sakiyama claimed the bronze medal. He recorded his best throw of 83.75 meters on his sixth attempt but was unable to come close to Arshad Nadeem’s performance.

Arshad, who made history by winning gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a stunning record throw of 92.97 meters, led the national contingent.

This was his first major appearance since that landmark achievement. He is Pakistan's first individual Olympic gold medallist and the country’s only medallist in athletics at the Summer Games.

Following the competition, Asian champion Arshad Nadeem expressed gratitude for the support from his fans and emphasized the importance of their prayers as he aims for yet another major international medal.

Looking ahead, the athlete will soon travel to England to prepare for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in September, where he hopes to continue his medal-winning streak.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have felicitated Arshad Nadeem on winning gold medal at Asian Athletics Championship.

In his message the President said the entire nation is proud of Arshad Nadeem’s outstanding performance.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a statement, said Arshad Nadeem continued to make the nation proud. He said Arshad Nadeem's hard work, dedication and remarkable success serve as an inspiring example for young athletes.

 

CM Maryam sings praise for Arshad Nadeem

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif extended her heartfelt felicitation to Arshad Nadeem for winning gold medal in Asian Athletics Championship.

In her message, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz lauded outstanding performance showed by Arshad Nadeem.

She said “Alhamdolillah with the blessings of Almighty Allah good news start coming for Pakistan.”

She said that entire Pakistani nation is proud of their hero. Maryam Nawaz said that Arshad Nadeem and Yasir Sultan told the entire world that if the state stands with them the Pakistani youth can achieve any target.

Maryam Nawaz said that Punjab government is taking all possible measures to provide facilities to youth.

Arshad Nadeem is a real hero: Naqvi

Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi extended his heartfelt congratulations to Arshad Nadeem for winning gold medal in Asian Athletics Championship.

He said that Arshad Nadeem is real hero of Pakistan and entire nation is proud on him. 

Mohsin Naqvi said that Arshad Nadeem not only won gold medal but also hearts of Pakistanis.

Mohsin Naqvi said that winning gold medal is result of Arshad Nadeem’s tireless efforts, dedication and commitment to his work.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori extended warm wishes and his heartfelt congratulations to Arshad Nadeem for winning gold medal.

He said once again Arshad Nadeem defeated his arch-rival India in the final and won the gold medal. He said Arshad Nadeem promoted Pakistan globally.
