While millions of Muslims of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir continue facing merciless lockdown since August last year and the BJP government has not eased the situation even symbolically despite consistent demands made by the Islamic countries, an Indian politician’s latest utterances against Muslims of his country – in fact, Muslims as a whole – has opened a new front against Muslims. 

Dr Subramaniam Swamy, a senior leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a member of India’s parliament, said in an interview a few days ago that “Muslims are not equal citizens (in India) since they pose a threat to the world”.

Speaking to journalist Isobel Yeung, he slammed over 200 million Muslims of his own country while speaking about the ongoing human rights crisis in India.

“On this issue, the country is with us,” he boastfully claimed.

He said: “Most people like our hardline approach to solving pending problems.” (leaving no doubt that the incumbent rulers in India are totally extremists, having nothing to do with rationality). 

He said “where the Muslim population is large, there is always trouble,” which the female interviewer countered by pointing out that with 200 million Muslim residents, India has the second-largest Islamic population in the world.

When Swamy stuck to his position, she told him his comments sounded “like hatred,” but he said he was being “kind.”

The journalist cited Article 14 of India’s constitution — “The State shall not deny any person’s equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India” — he told her she was misinterpreting it and, in fact, Muslims are “not in an equal category” to non-Muslims.

Categorizing Muslims as “not equal citizens” amounts to ridiculing the very Constitution of the so-called most populous democracy of the world, and shows that the concept of equality was only on paper, not in practice.

The United Nations, the human rights organizations, all Islamic countries and world leaders who are so sensitive about human rights across the world should take a serious notice of the remarks, which can rightly be equated to a confession coming from a senior leader of the ruling party.

The remarks that Muslims pose a threat to the world are extremely provocative, totally intolerable.  The prejudiced Hindu leader doesn’t know that the very word “Islam” means peace and no adherent of this sacred religion is supposed to work against any of its provisions.

Swamy’s remarks have exposed the world’s most populous “democracy” and their intentions about Muslims.

Prime Minister Imran tweeted on Friday, “The RSS-inspired BJP leadership in the 21st century openly speaking about the 200 million Muslims just as the Nazis spoke about the Jews.”

But mere Pakistan premier’ reaction is not sufficient.

All leaders of the Islamic countries should join hands in condemning the nonsensical remarks of the Indian leader and tell the nation of urine drinkers and cow dung eaters that such views would not be tolerated at all.

The situation needs special attention of the Arab countries that have given employment to millions of Indians, including Hindus.

They should register a strong protest with the Indian embassies in their countries and set a deadline for New Delhi to withdraw the statement of its parliamentarian. In case the demand is not met, the Indians working in various walks of life should be sent packing without delay.

There is also an urgent need for Muslim countries to tell the world that Muslims pose no threat to the world. They are for peace across the globe and want all countries to play their role for the same goal.

If Muslim countries failed to take notice of Swamy’s remarks, India’s future attitude would be more provocative and the Islamic world would only helplessly watch the anti-Muslim agenda unfolding there.
